5 (Amazing) Holiday Date Ideas

in Tips on 12/22/17

The holidays are just around the corner and we are super excited.

Why? Because of the food. Just kidding…(sort of!)

We’re super excited because of all the fun holiday things to do with someone special. Here’s 5 of our favourite holiday date ideas.

1. See Christmas lights with a holiday treat.

This one is kind of obvious, but always a classic. Visiting your local light festivals, gardens, streets all done up, always leaves us in the christmas spirit. Throw in a holiday treat to enjoy while doing it? Double win!

Our favourites holiday treats are:

  • Toasted Nuts

  • Christmas Cookies

  • Candy Canes

  • Hot Drinks (like Mint Hot Chocolate or Apple Cider!)

If you’re in the Vancouver area, these are our favourite places:

  • VanDusen Festival of Lights

  • Stanley Park Bright Nights Christmas Train (FREE)

  • Enchant Light Maze

2. Build a fort and watch a Christmas movie.

On a budget? Not to worry! This cozy Christmas date is easy on your wallet and heavy on the fun. Gather all your blankets, pillows, and inner childhood spirits to finagle your best fort in front of the TV. Get your comfy on with onesies and snacks, then prep your favourite holiday movie (or two!) and you’re good to go! You’ll be amazed at how much fun you can have letting your inner child out to play and reminiscing with classic holiday movies.

Here’s some pro fort tips:

  • Hair clips are amazing blanket holders

  • Laundry racks create good lift and stability

  • More pillows are always a good idea

Here’s a list of holiday classics to get you started:

  • Home Alone 1 or 2

  • Miracle on 34th Street

  • The Grinch

Ice Skating

3. Ice Skating

Wether you’re a pro or a beginner, this is guaranteed to put you in the winter spirit. Active dates really are the most fun. Getting outdoors (or indoors!), bundling up, and strapping on your skates is guaranteed to be a blast and create some great holiday memories.

Some great places in the Vancouver area to go skating are:

  • Robson Square Ice Skating (FREE)

  • Mountain Top Ice Skating at Grouse Mountain

  • Local Community Centers (INDOOR)

Give Back

4. Give Back

Truly the best way to get into the Christmas spirit is by giving back. There’s so many in need all year long, but especially around the holiday season. What better way to connect with your special someone than giving back. Trust us, you’ll feel amazing, create great memories, and spread holiday cheer to those who really need it, what’s better than that?

Here’s a list of ideas:

  • Gather winter weather things and spend the evening offering them to those on the streets. (Think blankets, mittens, scarves, toques, boots, etc.)

  • Make food packages or buy meals and drinks to offer to those on the streets. (Think hot chocolate, coffee, soups, sandwiches, water bottles and snacks. Or offer to buy them a meal at a restaurant nearby!)

  • Make up care packages to hand out to your local shelters or those who’d like them on the streets. (Clothing, toys, hair brushes, towels, blankets and toiletries are a great place to start)

5. Christmas Dinner Hop

We said we’re excited for the food didn’t we? This date idea involves restaurant hopping for every course of the meal–Christmas themed! Search out the best places in your area to get holiday fare and drinks, then enjoy your evening hustling and bustling to each special location for each special course. (Make it a surprise scavenger hunt for bonus points!)

Our favourite places in the Vancouver area for the best holiday vibe and fare:

  • Fairmont Vancouver

  • Burgoo

  • Meet on Main
